Quote roundup: San Diego residents unsure of the next two years (ContributorNetwork)

While the Nov. 2 election was dominated by the GOP, California Democrats held strong. San Diego-area voters have a lot on their minds in regard to what will happen in the next two years.

"I worry about unemployment [benefits] being blocked. My son has been out of work for almost three years with a family. I fear the newly appointed GOP will not remember people like him and leave them on the streets. I foresee a lot of bickering on their part and not accomplishing anything other than stalling 'til 2012." -- Hia Lin Yamagui, nurse, Mira Mesa

"I honestly think that there will be nothing accomplished in the next two years as [the GOP] will do everything possible to make sure Obama comes out looking bad. I didn't vote for him, but it seems like they will do everything in their power to make sure he accomplishes nothing in the next two years. Sad." -- Michael Thompson, retired schoolteacher, Point Loma

"I fear that the GOP and the Tea Partiers will block each others' efforts and hurt the Republicans. There is going to be some serious drama on the Hill over the next two years between the Democrats, GOP and the Tea Party. I expect absolutely nothing to get accomplished and we're going to be set back in our progression because of it." -- Lue Anne Micitkaoski, ultrasound tech, San Diego

"I think this next two years will be nothing but fighting like three-year-olds. Nothing will get accomplished, and no one will be helped. Each party has their own agenda. What scares me the most is that this is a ploy tactic to get Sarah Palin in office in 2012. I am a Republican and she scares me." -- Christian Karter, retail store manager, Carlsbad

"I don't see one politician who will help deter any gridlock on the Hill. They all ultimately answer to their party, and they all want to keep their seat in 2012. I just lost my job due to outsourcing. Unemployment being available is my biggest fear what will go astray due to the fighting." -- Xiao Tran, lab technician, La Jolla

"The election gives me hope that the next years will get everyone out of office in the next election that has been a determent to our deficit. I do believe the unemployment extension should be blocked for the 49ers. They have become complacent, and the new wave of politicians will make sure they are no longer." -- Julia Rothschild, nurse, La Jolla

"There will be nothing done in the next two years, and it will be blocking on both parts. No one politician will stand out, but they all will fight each other. They will forget it is 'We the People' -- not just them. But then I knew this was coming, and if this is a reflection of the 2012 election, I am scared." -- Raymond Builtson, unemployed construction worker, San Diego

"The next two years will be a lot of fighting. However, I do see it backfiring on the GOP. [Senate Majority Leader] Harry Reid and a few other Democratic 'strongs' will sit back and let the GOP destroy itself with the bickering between them and the Tea Party. This will be an interesting two years where nothing will get done." -- Mary Tomagaw, restaurant manager, Rancho Bernardo
