Governments of Canada and New Brunswick Commemorate New Economical Residential Undertaking in Moncton

By Nick Gilbert

Canada??s Economic Action Plan, the federal government??s initiative to give a boost to the economy and generate new employment opportunities during the world-wide recession, has enabled financing to the extent of $3.37 million for the undertaking. The provincial and federal governments are donating equally to this $75 million total investment as per the amended Canada-New Brunswick Affordable Housing Program Agreement.

Robert Goguen, Member of Parliament for Moncton-Riverview-Dieppe, declared that the Harper government is offering support to people in need in Moncton and in the country. He expressed pleasure that the government??s donation of $ 1,120,000 has gone a long way in providing economical and good quality residences and has helped in the financial welfare of the whole neighborhood.

According to Honorable Sue Stultz, New Brunswick Minister for Social Development and the minister in charge of housing, contributing to residential projects is very vital to re-building New Brunswick. She expressed pleasure in this undertaking, which underlines the government's dedication to improve the lifestyle of the population of New Brunswick, also showing them ways to live within their means.

R.C.L. Developments is a 56-unit construction situated at 257 Robinson in Moncton. Besides the $1.12 million the undertaking received in the form of federal housing financing for the elderly with low earnings and incapacitated persons granted through Canada's Economic Action Plan, it also obtained $2.25 million as rent supplements for the 28 units from the provincial government.

'Solid South' no longer just all-red or all-blue

ATLANTA (AP) ? The "Solid South" was a political fact, benefiting Democrats for generations and then Republicans, with Bible Belt and racial politics ruling the day.

But demographic changes and recent election results reveal a more nuanced landscape now as the two major parties prepare for their national conventions. Republicans will convene Aug. 27 in Florida, well established as a melting-pot battleground state, to nominate Mitt Romney of Massachusetts. Democrats will toast President Barack Obama the following week in North Carolina, the perfect example of a Southern electorate not so easily pigeon-holed.

Obama won both states and Virginia four years ago, propelled by young voters, nonwhites and suburban independents. Virginia, long a two-party state in down-ballot races, had not sided with Democrats on the presidency since Lyndon Johnson in 1964. Jimmy Carter in 1976 had been the last Democratic nominee to win North Carolina. Each state is in play again, with Romney needing to reclaim Florida and at least one of the others to reach the White House.

Southern strategists and politicians say results will turn again this year on which party and candidates understand changing demographics and voter priorities.

"The transformation of the South seems to never end," said Mo Elleithee, a Democratic campaign consultant with deep experience in Virginia and federal elections. "Now it's beginning to emerge, at least parts of it, as solidly purple."

New citizens, birth rates, and migration patterns of native-born Americans make high-growth areas less white, less conservative or both. There is increasing urban concentration in many areas. African-American families are moving back to the South after generations in Chicago, New York or other northern cities.

Young religious voters are less likely than their parents to align with Republicans on abortion and same-sex unions. Younger voters generally are up for grabs on fundamental questions like the role of the federal government in the marketplace.

"I wouldn't say the South is any more ideologically rigid than anywhere else in the country. Certainly, it's complicated," said former Gov. Phil Bredesen of Tennessee. Bredesen, a Democrat, won twice while Republican George W. Bush occupied the White House. Before that, Bredesen was a two-term mayor of Nashville.

Republican Haley Barbour of Mississippi, a former national party chairman and two-term governor, said the demographics are important but can be overemphasized. He acknowledged GOP concerns that Hispanics will vote Obama in proportions Romney cannot overcome "if the election for them is only about immigration." But, he added, "Never mind that their unemployment is so much higher than the national average. ... If the election for them is about the economy, we can do well."

Virginia grew from 7 million people to 8 million from 2000 to 2010, according to the census. North Carolina went from 8 million to 9.5 million. Both states were 65 percent white, a drop from 72 percent in each state. Native North Carolinians made up 58.6 percent of the population, a proportion that topped 70 percent two decades ago. Virginia is now half transient or immigrant.

"The North Carolina that Sen. (Jesse) Helms ran in was certainly different than today," said GOP campaign strategist Brian Nick, referring to the cantankerous five-term Republican senator. Nick worked for Helms' successor, Republican Elizabeth Dole.

Similar growth, migration and race trends are evident in Tennessee and Georgia, though they haven't yielded the same party outcomes. In those states, white voters still break strongly for Republicans.

Republican Sen. Johnny Isakson of Georgia said "it would be dishonest" to argue race is not a prominent consideration in historical party identification, but he said race and demographics are not a primary driver in the state today. Isakson said it was new residents in metro Atlanta who helped the GOP take near total control of state government, with their votes based more on unseating entrenched powers than anything to do with social conservatism or old alliances based on race.

For decades after post-Civil War Reconstruction, the Lincoln Republicans were unwelcome in the South. Democratic loyalty intensified under Franklin Roosevelt and the New Deal. But the civil rights movement marked a split. "Dixiecrats" walked out of the 1948 nominating convention. In 1964, after Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act, Republican nominee Barry Goldwater's margins in a handful of Deep South states looked like FDR's three decades before.

From then until 2008, only Carter of Georgia and Bill Clinton of Arkansas managed Democratic victories in states that once belonged to the Confederacy. Both are native Southerners. Bredesen, a New York native, said he was called a "carpetbagger" in his earliest campaigns.

Heading into November, the former Confederate states have just five Democrats in the Senate and only a handful of white Democrats in the House. The GOP has a majority in one or both legislative chambers in all of those states except Arkansas.

There are outliers.

Kentucky re-elected a Democratic governor last year after sending tea party favorite Rand Paul to the Senate. While Republican presidential nominees rolled in North Carolina, Democrats Jim Hunt and Mike Easley were successful governors. Then, after Obama won the state, Republicans in their next cycle took both legislative chambers. Democratic Gov. Bev Perdue isn't seeking re-election and Democrats could lose half of their U.S. House seats, including two vacated by incumbents.

In Virginia, counties outside metropolitan Washington, D.C., and along the Atlantic coast helped elect a succession of Democratic governors and U.S. senator and swung to Obama in 2008. Then they went solidly for Republican Bob McDonnell in the 2009 governor's race.

The lesson, Nick and Elleithee said, is to know your audience.

Nick, the North Carolina Republican, said Democrats like Hunt and Easley talked effectively about education and maintained good relationships with the state's banking, technology and research sectors. Now, he said, Republicans are learning to talk about "kitchen-table issues" and economic security, rather than leaning on social issues.

Elleithee, the Democratic consultant on Virginia races, noted the influence of federal contracting in driving the economy of northern Virginia, where votes often settle the statewide result. Debates over spending and the deficit play differently than in other parts of the country. "People hear a 'cuts only' approach and think, 'that's my job' or 'that's my neighbor's job,'" he said.

Bredesen, along with Rep. Heath Shuler, one of the North Carolina Democrats who isn't running again, said even with advantageous demographic shifts, their party should still try to reclaim native white Southerners.

Shuler, a member of the Blue Dog caucus, said Southerners aren't as divided as it sometimes appears. He lamented a hyper-partisan atmosphere in Congress that he said spills into party primaries that, in turn, yield extreme options for a general election. Given much of the region's conservative bent, that dynamic has helped Republicans, he reasoned.

Nationally, Bredesen said, Democrats lost their connection with many small-town and rural whites because of a confluence of issues beyond race: Vietnam War protests, gun control, abortion, Supreme Court appointments, gay marriage. "I think the extent to which the national party has made a crusade out of some of these issues has driven people away," he said. To connect with distinct urban, suburban and rural populations, Bredesen said, parties must "appreciate the whole diversity of experiences Americans have in this country."

Barbour said Republicans should win over the growing nonwhite population based on policy. "The change in the South has been evolutionary, and I expect it to continue," he said. "But people in demographic groups evolve, too. Besides African-Americans, who are pretty firm (for Democrats), most other groups ebb and flow."

Curiosity rover warms up its laser with basaltic rock blast

DNP Curiosity rover blasts basalt with laser 'for science,' claims not to be 'ill tempered'

Intrepid 6-wheeler Curiosity perhaps protested too much when it tweeted "Yes, I've got a laser beam attached to my head. I'm not ill tempered; I zapped a rock for science." NASA turned the rover's high-powered laser loose with 30 pulses of a million watts each, reducing a thin layer of the chosen stone, dubbed N165 "Coronation," to plasma. The resulting spectrum was then analyzed by the on-board "ChemCam" to determine its composition, and the US/French team who developed the system said it's working even better on Mars than it did on terra firma. The results are now being studied, but if we had a laser beam on another planet, we'd be firing it all over the place -- in the name of "science," of course.

Medicare barbs dominate White House race

(AP) ? Showing no signs of letting up, Mitt Romney and Barack Obama are doubling down on claims the other would threaten seniors' golden years.

Both campaigns sharpened their critique of the other's Medicare policies in recent days and planned to intensify them yet again on Sunday, as the already acrimonious race for the White House reached a new level. Romney's running mate, Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin, on Saturday told seniors here on Florida's western coast that he sees parallels with Europe's debt crisis that cut seniors' benefits. He warned the same could happen right here at home.

Campaigning in New Hampshire, Obama said it is a sure thing that Romney would tear apart Medicare.

Medicare, the popular ? though costly ? health program for seniors, has become a flashpoint in the presidential race in the frenzied week since Romney picked Ryan as his vice presidential pick. Ryan, a deficit hawk and the House Republicans' chief budget writer, brought buzz to the ticket but also left Romney trying to explain to seniors that he would not take a wrecking ball to the program seniors see as a right.

Ryan has stood out in Washington for laying out tough spending choices that many lawmakers in both parties avoid. So it was almost inevitable that his selection as running mate would vault Medicare to the top of the campaign debate. But it isn't clear it will remain the top priority in an election that, to this point, has been a contest between Romney and Obama over who would be best for jobs and the economy.

Obama wasted no time reaching for the upper-hand on Medicare and his spokespeople were ready to take to the Sunday talk shows to plant doubts about what Ryan would do to seniors' programs in the name of balancing budgets. Romney's and Ryan's were at the ready, too, to point out Obama had shifted billions from the program to pay for Democrats' health care law.

It's a familiar charge already. On Saturday, Ryan accused Obama of raiding the Medicare "piggybank" to pay for his health care overhaul.

Obama countered that seniors shouldn't trust their golden years to Romney.

"They've been trying to sell this trickle-down snake oil before," Obama told his audience in Windham, N.H. "It did not work then. It will not work now. It will not reduce the deficit, it will not create jobs. It's the wrong direction for America."

Ryan's proposal in Congress would encourage future retirees to consider private coverage that the government would help pay for through a voucher-like system, while keeping the traditional program as an option.

According to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, Medicare over time would spend thousands less per senior under the Ryan plan than under current policy. Critics say that would shift heavy costs to individual retirees. The government could always spend more than anticipated to meet changing realities, but at the cost of deeper deficits.

Speaking to donors who paid as much as $50,000 to have dinner with him, Ryan compared the United States with Europe, where a financial crisis has led to cuts in benefits for retirees. He said European lawmakers delayed action even though they saw impending problems and seniors paid the price.

"They ran out of road to kick the can down, and now they have a debt crisis," Ryan said here near Tampa. "Now, a debt crisis hit and those empty promises have become broken promises."

Ryan warned the same could happen here if the country doesn't get its hands around its own affairs.

"It doesn't have to be that way. We can turn this around," Ryan said.

Earlier in the day, Ryan introduced his 78-year-old mother to an audience of seniors at the world's largest retirement community and passionately defended a program that has provided old-age security for two generations of his own family.

"She planned her retirement around this promise," Ryan said as Betty Ryan Douglas looked on. "That's a promise we have to keep."

Chinese Firm will Send Spanish Robot to Moon in 2014 for Google Lunar X Contest

China Great Wall Industry Corporation in June 2014 will launch the Spanish robot that is competing in the Google Lunar X Prize contest to the moon.

The agreement for the space shot was finalized in Paris between the leadership of CGWIC and the Galactic Suite company, which heads the Spanish team.

Xavier Claramunt, the president of Galactic Suite, told Efe that with the agreement the Barcelona Moon Team is at the head of the teams participating in the competition, given that to ensure the launch of the spacecraft is to guarantee more than half of the mission.

The launch will be made with a Long March 2C rocket with a third CTS2 stage to insert the payload into a lunar transfer orbit.

The rocket will carry the Spanish module that, once it detaches and is moonbound, will make course corrections and brake to insert itself into lunar orbit, then touch down on the lunar surface to begin undertaking the tasks included in the contest.

The competition challenges participants to create a robot that can move over the lunar surface and send live images back to Earth before December 2015.

The probe must be able to travel 500 meters (1,625 feet) over the lunar surface, send data, high resolution images and video, survive for one lunar night (14.5 days), locate the remains of earlier missions, like Apollo or Viking, and detect water.

Barcelona Moon Team is the only team based in Spain that is participating in the Google Lunar X Prize, which has attracted the participation of private companies and technological centers from around the world.

The project is headed by Galactic Suite, a private space tourism company, and by ALTRAN, an international consulting firm specializing in technology and innovation.

Claramunt said that the contest is an opportunity for the state aerospace sector, an emerging sector of high added value that is growing.

CGWIC dedicates its efforts to the international development of the Chinese space industry via launch services, the export of satellites, ground-based tracking and the construction of control stations.

Various kinds of Computer systems For Example Tablet Computers Notebook computers and also the Easy To Use Desktop Computer

Article by Loard Larson

With technology evolving in a rapid rate, producers can develop highly advanced computer systems that can handle undertaking tasks that may not have access to been thought possible even about ten years ago. Probably the most amazing leads to computer systems could be observed in the most recent laptops which are on the market today and aside from the unbelievably advanced functions they could perform, their designs are simply being very trendy which makes them extremely popular using the more youthful generation with whom appearance and aesthetically pleasing items matter a great deal.

If laptops are popular, you are able to say certainly the pc tablet and mobile computing took the field of technology by storm mainly because of the simplicity of portability which makes them probably the most convenient of devices to become transported around for daily use anyplace. The development of compatible add-ons for example portable ink jet printers and keyboards make them much more popular where the most serious customers of computer systems are now able to place their use them wherever they?re going. The only issue in making use of tablet Computers and Mobile computing may be the exorbitant prices that are affixed to them and something could state that the more compact the unit, the more expensive it?s.

Desktop computer systems however although bulky and awkward and therefore needing much space, not just for that monitor, but in addition for the tower, keyboard and also the 100s of cables that lizard everywhere, are greatly less expensive and just in case of the breakdown, much simpler to correct compared to exclusive tablet Computers, mobile computing and laptops which may be fixed only through the brand manufacturer or their agent. They?re also much simpler to upgrade, simpler to operate on and also have more convenience of players who need a ton extra space for gaming and for video streaming, watching movies and presentations.

There?s almost not a home without a pc or laptop that is usually sufficient to do daily tasks for example create documents, prepare excel spreadsheets, and send e-mails along with other fundamental functions, it ought to however be stored in your mind that players and people that execute photo shopping, video editing, etc. will require extra space that they?re going to have to grow their RAM and install powerful graphic cards to be able to perform their functions effectively.

A workstation computer also features its own efficiency where you?ll find its well suited for multitasking, and undertaking focus on huge data bases and spreadsheet programs. The workstation computer can also be popular because it may be effectively upgraded and it has optional peripheral devices for example microphones, and webcams etc. in most cases include dual processors and various memory electrical sockets for ease of use. When purchasing a pc for your own personel use, make certain it?s the fundamental electrical sockets for keyboard, mouse, webcam and USB while departing out what?s not essential and therefore reducing on cost.

Finland sets new mobile phone record by throwing one

Admittedly, Finland's seen better days in the mobile industry, but that hasn't stopped the townspeople in Savonlinna from hosting the 13th annual Mobile Phone Throwing World Championships to brighten things up. In fact, the recycling awareness event went so well that 18-year-old Ere Karjalainen set a new championship record of 101.46 meters. The secret? Just an old Nokia device (obviously) plus a bit of preparation the day before -- "mainly by drinking."

While Finnish organizer Christine Lund claims this is a new world record, a little digging revealed that Britain's Chris Hughff threw -- as a guest participant -- a 102.68 meter distance at JIM Mobile's Belgium Championships earlier this year. Despite the utilization of a laser rangefinder plus video proof after the break, Lund dismissed the "unofficial" event's record, according to the AAP. Regardless, Karjalainen is no doubt the latest sweetheart amongst Finnish geeks.

DPS leaders hope church helps attendance

DETROIT (WXYZ) - On Sunday several Detroit Public School leaders toured churches. They spoke to congregations and asked parents to help ensure that all students are in class on day one.

DPS Emergency Financial Manager Roy Roberts says last year the state tried to take back funding due to attendance issues. He says the district can?t afford to lose money.

?And more importantly, we need to make sure our students are in class getting a quality education,? said Roberts.

He and other school leaders say they will be going to 20 churches in Detroit in the coming Sundays, all with the goal of improving attendance.

The visits come as the district?s leaders deal with shifting powers. ?

A judge this week ruled Roberts will keep financial control of the district, but gave the school board academic control. The school board responded by making numerous last minute changes.?

The move came after a state law giving emergency managers sweeping powers was set aside pending a November vote. ?

Roberts says the changes should not affect the confidence parents have in Detroit Schools.

?We will have stability in Detroit Schools,? said Roberts.

Before Roberts spoke to congregations, parents gathered outside churches to great church goers.

Sonya Smith, a mother to two Detroit Public School students, says she came out because she believes her daughters' schools will be able to succeed with community support.

?Our children need to see us involved in the schools we trust to give them a quality education,? said Smith.

BarCamp Fairy Tales ? Debunking Common Real Estate Marketing ...

In mid-June, Union Street Media had the pleasure of attending and participating in Boston Real Estate BarCamp 2012. This ?meeting of the minds? was a great opportunity for real estate agents, social media consultants, and web developers to present, discuss, and debate current trends and developments in technology and how to best apply that technology to the real estate marketing.

We were excited to seea few of our clients at BarCamp and hope to see many others at coming events. We?ll have Union Street Media folks at the Annual NHAR Convention, MAR Conference & Tradeshow, VAR?s 2012 Conference & Expo and Maine Association of Realtors Annual Convention & Tradeshow?this fall.?These and other conferences are great opportunities to listen to and participate in discussions about the changing real estate marketing landscape as well as hear from industry partners like Union Street Media.

BarCamp and other conferences are valuable for us and our clients because they offer a great venue for sharing ideas and building on knowledge and skills that are already in place. We always come away with some great insights from clients and realtors in general, but in most instances we find ourselves already ahead of the newest trends and technologies. That said if you hear something that excites, confuses, or concerns you ? please let us know! Your Account Manager?is happy to help you make sense of the wide variety of tips and ?musts? floating around. Below you?ll find a few of our key takeaway?s from Barcamp ? those thoughts that were most compelling as well as explanations or reinterpretations of those messages from presentations that seemed to miss the mark a little.

Social media as a necessary evil?
The application of social media to real estate marketing is, and we assume will continue to be, hotly debated for a while to come. What most people can?t seem to agree upon is how many forums agents should be on, how much time should be dedicated to these, and how your message should be presented on each. During one session agents were advised to maintain a Twitter presence by tweeting 5 hours each week, at least 5 times a day, and covering no less than 4 topics during a single 24-hour period! We realize that most agents are spending that valuable time with their clients and while there are benefits to being active on social media, the point of each is to drive visitors back to your site where they can view all of your listings and engage with your conversion tools. One agent may benefit from an active Facebook account while another sees a better ROI from their blog. The main takeaway should be this: whatever you do, do it well. A Facebook profile or Twitter account offers little or even negative value if it is not maintained. A blog without posts in the last three months can tell your visitors that the information on your site is outdated or that you?re too busy for new clients. Catering to mobile device users
There seemed to be a bit of confusion as to the importance of a mobile app in place of a full mobile site. Smart phone users navigating to a real estate website are looking for a quick and easy way to search for listings. A smart phone user can set up your website as a bookmark on their home screen just as easy as they can download an app that pulls them into your mobile site. What?s really important is that when a user gets to the?mobile version of your site, they can easily search through properties and navigate through the listings. Our recently updated mobile platform?allows nearby properties to feed right into the homepage of?your site and provides driving directions to each listing at thetap of a finger. Also, QR codes are trendy and while the jury?s out on whether or not these will stick around a while, it doesn?t hurt to add them to appropriate marketing materials. However, a QR code shouldn?t simply direct visitors to the homepage of your site. If someone is taking the time to scan a QR code they?re looking for added value from that action ? we suggest you direct your users to specific listings or relevant property search results. You?ll notice that in the recent updates made to our detail view print templates, QR codes specific to each listing have been added. Keep in mind that for most mobile devices, there?s a 10:1 scan distance to optimal QR code size ration. Also, it?s easy and FREE to generate QR codes yourself ? try out Google?s QR Code tool. Google?s inside man
We?ve heard from a few clients, that they?ve learned Google is going to be discounting the use of keywords in the coming months. In the words of Tom Cull, a Union Street Media Internet Marketer, ?To say Google is doing away with keywords is like saying books are doing away with words.? While we can?t predict what Google has in store for the future, currently the keywords field and the general use of keywords is very different and the knowledgeable placement and use of keywords is paramount to the success of site in attracting qualified traffic. Google?s web search algorithm has ignored keyword meta tags field for years now. About 10 years ago, untrustworthy web developers were cramming key terms and phrases (that often had nothing to do with the page or site content) into the keywords meta tag.To clarify, the use of keywords and phrases in title tags, meta descriptions, and page content do still carry weight and the algorithm has gotten smarter in ensuring that those terms in the title tags and descriptions are true to the content provided on each page/site. Hear it straight from the horses mouth in this video with Matt Cutts from the Search Quality Team.

While no question is a bad question, some answers can be misleading or easy to misinterpret.? We?re always interested in hearing what our clients are learning at conferences or ?un-conferences? (like Barcamp) and are happy to help you weed through the information you?re receiving.
